Kim Dunbar

Kim Dunbar's plays include PORCHMONKEY, THE GIVER, and BANNED AND BURNED IN AMERICA, (co-written with Bryan Davidson). Her plays have been developed/produced by Watts Village Theater Company, River Stage in Sacramento, Mark Taper New Work Festival, The Working Theater NYC, ASK Theater Labs, Crossroads Theater in New Brunswick, The Greenway Court Theater, Black & Latino Playwright's Conference, and the BAM Festival, Austin. Kim wrote the book for the musical stage play MAHALIA'S WORLD: REMEMBERING MAHALIA JACKSON, and has also written several plays for young people though the Virginia Avenue Project. Kim was also co-director of LAYTE, (Los Angeles Youth Theatre Ensemble), made up of high school students from several Los Angeles area schools.

Kim studied theater at U.C. San Diego and The Juilliard School. In Los Angeles she was a member of L.A. Black Playwrights, The Mentor Playwrights Project & the Blacksmyths Playwrights Lab, both at The Mark Taper Forum.
